Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons (Rotbtd), also known as 'The Big Four,’ is a crossover fandom where Rapunzel (Tangled), Hiccup (How to Train Your Dragon), Merida (Brave), and Jack (Rise of the Guardians) meet and become friends.
I first became part of the fandom around a year ago. I was scrolling through Pinterest one day when suddenly I saw the picture below. For the next few hours I read the entire comic. While the comic may not have been all that good, I loved it.
Since then I have learned more about the fandom and have come to love it

more and more--despite its flaws. Here are my thoughts on it.
The characters
I have nothing I don’t like about the characters. They are so different and unique and yet they still have similarites with each other. I love that. Just imagine what they could do together and the conversations they could have! Merida and Jack pranking and teasing each other. Hiccup and Rapunzel talking about Toothless and Pascal. Rapunzel and Merida playing with each other's hair(mostly Rapunzel playing with Merida's hair haha). Hiccup with Toothless racing Jack. Jack and Rapunzel being best of friends and always trying to convince Hiccup and Merida to walk around barefoot. There are just so many possibilities! I could go on and on XD
The flexibility
Since there isn’t a book or movie with them all together, there aren’t any ‘rules’ in the fandom. We are free to imagine how they met and what they do together however we want.
This is great most of the time. I love to imagine how everything would happen and such. The one thing I do find slightly annoying is that, because there is so much variety, it’s harder to find fanfiction and such that I like. Which leads me to my next point.
The fanfiction
Now not all of it is bad. For example some fanfics that I really like are:
HOWEVER, most fanfiction I’ve read is just not that good. Half, if not more, of them have bad grammer or are just badly written. Especially when it comes to the characters. Sometimes it feels like the writer only cares about the romance (which is bound to be there) and not about the characters. I know that these stories are written for fun and are not meant to be professional, but it still annoys me.
It’s important to me (and probably to other fans) because there isn’t as many things we can do compared to other fandoms. We don’t get to read books about the big four and we don’t get to watch movies with them. Since we don’t have books and movies, we are left with less things to do. So, I usually read fanfiction, and I want it to be good.
The fans
I already have said that it annoys me that some of the fans don’t represent the characters accurately. I also don’t like that sometimes they ignore the secondary characters or that some of them are really immature. But other then that there isn’t anything else I dislike about them. They all have their own opinions, which I respect and would encourage them to have.
The fans are the fandom in most if not all ways. So even though some of them annoy me, a lot of them I really like. There is some really cool art out there for this fandom :). So in the end, I think the good about the fans out weighs the bad.
Well that’s it! Please let me know what you think in the comments! Do you agree or disagree? What’s your favorite fanfictions? (I would love to find more fanfics XD)
